Banquet

The Lutheran Luncheon Club of Metro Detroit is pleased to present Mr. Scott Beam as the 2026 Lutheran Layman of the Year.

A banquet to honor Scott will be held at Historic Trinity Lutheran Church on Sunday, April 26th. To register for the banquet or to get more information, please contact Marty Moro at morom3@yahoo.com.

Born in Pontiac, Michigan to Bradley and Evelyn Beam, Scott was baptized at Christ Lutheran, Milford where he has remained for his whole life, following in his parents’ footsteps as an active leader in the church.

Scott and his wife Jennifer both graduated from the University of Michigan, where they played in the marching band.  They met at a summer band function and were married the next year, with their 40-year anniversary coming up this year. They have two children – son Michael is a staff sergeant in the army and daughter Hannah works at the local flower shop.

Scott completed a second degree in engineering while working for a consulting firm and then at General Motors. After GM he worked for 22 years at Faurecia, one of the top automotive suppliers in the world. For several years, Scott traveled extensively as an expert in automotive crash safety systems. He also taught statistics for the corporate university. Retirement came in 2022, after forty years in the automotive field.  Jennifer holds degrees in education, biology and nursing and works as a hospice nurse.

Scott and Jennifer continue to serve their church in many ways. Jennifer serves on the Stewardship and Planned Giving Boards and oversees electronic giving. Scott is the church Treasurer, chair of the Properties Board, and an Elder. Both Scott and Jennifer sing in the church choir, deliver Meals on Wheels, and do handy-person jobs for members.

Scott has been a member of the LCMS Michigan District Board of Directors for the past 10 years, serving as Vice Chair for the last 4. Scott also heads the Governance Committee and is a member of the Finance Committee. He attended the last Synodical convention as the Board representative and has been at several District conventions as a member of the Board or as a lay delegate from his church.

In their “spare” time, Scott and Jennifer play with the Livingston County Concert Band and the UofM Alumni Concert Band. Scott also plays with the Premier Big Band (with Hannah), and substitutes for several Detroit area bands, often playing for charity functions.  Scott and Jennifer have started to travel and recently served on a MOST Ministries mission trip.
